EV Charger
As the EU’s CO2 emission regulations are further strengthened in 2020, in the long term, electric vehicle manufacturers predict that the sales rate of electric vehicles will rise sharply.
Chargers for electric vehicles act as the biggest factor in the supply and spread of electric vehicles, and companies that develop stable and more innovative EV chargers will lead the electric vehicle charger era.
In particular, the current sensor using the J&D’s state-of-the-art technology for future-oriented EV charging development provides an optimized guide for various designs brought by various charging modes.
There are 3 main EV Charger modes
1) Mode 4: DC EV Chargers
The Mode 4 charging system converts AC from the grid to DC and charges the car without using an inverter. This mode is defined by IEC 61851-23 standard, integrates the functions like converting AC/DC power, protecting people from electric shock, and a payment.
J&D Electronics, by itself, has developed and produced the devices that Mode 4 consists of for the safety and efficiency of Mode 4. Based on that, EV DC fast chargers and DC meters have been developed, and through this, it is possible to develop an optimized CT to improve safety and efficiency by being integrated with these devices.
To be more specific, J&D JDTN series CTs, the DC tolerance CTs suitable for Mode 4 by adding a DC immunity function, so that it is not affected by DC when measuring 3-phase AC power, are released. The IACT series CTs are also released to be able to apply to High efficiency AC -> DC Power modules. In addition, the IDCS series was released so that it could be used for Revenue-grade DC meters.
2) Mode 3: AC EV Chargers
Mode 3 is an AC->AC EV Charger that works by being connected to the AC supply network. It is usually located in the home that owns an electric vehicle, or in many public commercial places such as airports, hotels, workplaces, and dealerships.
J&D Electronics, by itself, has developed and produced the devices that Mode 3 consists of for the safety and efficiency of Mode 3. Based on that, AC EV slow chargers and AC smart meters are developed, and through this, an optimized CTs have been launched to improve safety and efficiency by being integrated with these devices.
In other words, for AC smart meters, JDTN series DC Tolerance CTs have been developed, so that they are not affected by DC when AC current is input, and RCD series CTs, which have been certified with IEC 62955 safety certification standards for residual current monitoring.
Above all, J&D CTs are the RCD (Residual Current Device) and have a function to detect leakage current to comply with safety certification IEC 62955. This is an element that supports the function to cut off the power of the house at the moment when a leakage current of 30mA (AC) and 6mA (DC) or more is detected in all of the user’s home electrical panels.
3) Mode 2: AC power measurement
Mode 2 is a mode in which electric vehicle AC power is supplied and charged through a cable and plug connected to a standard socket outlet. These cable lines are usually in the trunk of an electric vehicle and get plugged into the socket outlets when charge.
Here, the function and system that protects the electric shock placed between the socket outlet and the electric vehicle are important. In other words, these devices, called IC-CPD (In-Cable Control and Protection Device), must meet the safety certification IEC 62752 standard.
J&D Electronics has developed an optimized CTs to improve the safety and efficiency of this Mode 2. Above all, J&D CTs are RCD (Residual Current Device) that can detect leakage current to comply with safety certification IEC 62752. This is an element that supports the function to cut off the power of the house at the moment when a leakage current of 30mA (AC) and 6mA (DC) or more is detected in all of the user’s home appliance panels.
In addition, J&D JDTN series are the DC tolerance CTs so that it is not affected by DC when receiving AC power and is suitable for realizing safety and efficiency optimization.
